How To Grow Salvia Divinorum From Seeds
Salvia divinorum rarely produces seeds and when it does those seeds
are usually not viable. If you are able to obtain salvia divinorum
seeds, plant the seeds 0.08-0.1 inch deep in any quality potting mix.
Water the soil using a mister in order to prevent the dislodging of the
seeds. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. The seeds will germinate in
two to four weeks.
How To Grow Salvia Divinorum From Cuttings
Cutting
- Find a node on the plant that is 2 - 8 inches away from the end.
- Cut just below a node.
Rooting
- Put each cutting into a glass of water. Use a separate glass for each
cutting so that if one rots it doesn’t spoil the water and kill the
others.
- Each glass should be filled about 1.5 - 2 inches deep.
- Leave the glasses indoors in diffuse light and add a little water as
necessary to maintain the water level.
- In about two or three weeks you should see some roots starting to
form.
Transplanting
- When the cuttings have several roots 0.25 - 0.75 inches long, they
should be planted in pots of loose potting soil and watered well so that
the soil is moist but not soggy.
- Keep the plants in a moist environment for a few days after
transplanting to keep them from wilting. Cover the plants with a large
clear glass jar or clear plastic bag supported by a wire cage.
Best Salvia Divinorum Environment Conditions
Potting
The plants appreciate a lot of room for their roots so they should be
repotted to larger pots every few months. A deep 12 inch pot is the minimum
size for a full grown salvia plant.
Light
Salvia divinorum plants grow best in light shade with no more than four
hours of direct morning or afternoon sun. They do not like any strong direct
light nor do they like deep shade.
Temperature
The ideal temperature range for salvia divinorum plants is between 60 -
80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Humidity
Salvia divinorum plants prefers a humidity that is above 50%. Dry air tends to
cause the plant to put out deformed growth.
Fertilizer
Start fertilizing salvia divinorum plants about 1 month after transplanting. Start with
1/2 the fertilizer dosage suggested by the fertilizer's manufacture for the
first two months then move on to the full dosage.
